Summary of Job Duties:
This is a Laboratory Assistant position in the laboratory of Dr. Nicholas Levis. The focus of the lab is to understand the genetic, ecological, and evolutionary causes and consequences of phenotypic plasticity using shark-tooth nematodes and spadefoot toad tadpoles. Major duties include characterizing phenotypes of nematodes and tadpoles, maintaining laboratory stocks and animal colonies, and assisting with organismal (e.g., rearing in alternative environments) and molecular experiments (e.g., whole-genome sequencing/ RNA-sequencing) in both taxa. Additional duties include lab management tasks such as shipping and receiving packages, tracking stock supplies and chemicals, and other duties as needed that assist with the efficient conduct of research in the lab.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related field
Experience working in an academic Life Sciences laboratory
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with nematodes and/or amphibians in a life science lab
Experience with microinjection and/or molecular biology
Additional Information:
This is a 1-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.
Salary Information:
$36,300 or commensurate with experience
