Job Summary:

Looking for a meaningful career with the flexibility to choose your schedule? These positions work 36 hours per week- 12-hour shifts. Shifts can vary with rotating weekends and holidays. Shift differential is offered for evening and overnight hours. Sign-on bonus for RN position. Pay is dependent on years of experience, with RN $33.37 – $39.61per hour and LPN $25.83- $30.70 per hour.

This position provides professional-level nursing services at the South Dakota Developmental Center that require the application of basic nursing principles, practices, and techniques following established healthcare procedures and standards. Employees in this role usually operate in a patient care environment where the focus is on the healthcare of individuals.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must be licensed or be eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in South Dakota (associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or 3-year diploma).
  • The nursing level depends on the qualifications and experience of the incumbent.
  • All certificates and/or tests required for performance at this level must be obtained and/or completed.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • experience working with adolescents or adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities or educational background in psychology, sociology, counseling, or another related field is requested.

Knowledge of:

  • the principles and techniques of patient care;
  • hospital and clinic routine and procedures;
  • IV therapy;
  • the care and use of medical equipment and supplies;
  • principles of basic human behavior;
  • problems experienced by and methods of supervising people with developmental disabilities;
  • CPR and first aid;
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques;
  • patient’s rights;
  • document completion and review;
  • professional nursing theory and practices;
  • recent development in the field of professional nursing applicable to the area of assignment;
  • clinical procedures.

Ability to:

  • evaluate client behaviors, symptoms, and effects of medications;
  • follow directions;
  • prepare and maintain records, charts, and reports;
  • apply nursing techniques as delegated by physicians or registered nurses;
  • establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and staff;
  • direct and monitor direct care personnel;
  • evaluate client behaviors, symptoms and effects of medications;

  • prepare and maintain records, charts and reports;
