Faculty & Staff
Our comprehensive services can assist your students with a range of career development, graduate school consideration and job preparation needs. We look forward to working with you to deliver effective career planning and preparation services to your students.
Ways to Partner with Career Development
The Career Development office is excited to announce our Career Champions Program. This is a campus-wide program designed to visibly identify faculty and staff who are specially equipped to assist students with career decision-making.
The Career Everywhere movement is about empowering our students and meeting them where they are at. This provides support, information, content, and guidance to be available wherever and whenever they need it.
Get familiar with our services that help students explore careers, prepare for an employment or graduate school search, or navigate the employment process. Encourage students to consider their career plans and professional skill development as you interact with them and tell them about our services and events. Refer students to our office, as necessary.
We are currently offering presentations on the following topics:
- Career Development Services Overview
- Resume/Cover Letter Preparation
- Interviewing Strategies
- Dining/Interview Etiquette
*For Gorilla Gateway and Transitions classes, please contact Jeannice Parker at 620-235-4144 or jparker@pittstate.edu to schedule a presentation.
Instructors that plan to require their students to complete a resume, cover letter, and/or a reference letter can have the Career Development office review their class assignment.
It is important to schedule your class resume packet in order to ensure that they are reviewed to match your syllabus timeline and the student traffic flow in the office. To discuss options and make arrangements, please call Jeannice Parker at 235-4144 or email her at jparker@pittstate.edu.
If you would like to have your class conduct mock interviews as an assignment, please contact our office at 235-4140 to make arrangements with our staff.
Identify which of the NACE essential career readiness skills students will develop as a result of your course. From there, you can highlight these skills for your students in the various sections of your course syllabus (see the Faculty Toolkit for examples).
We host several career fairs and events each semester, and encourage faculty and staff to attend these events to meet with our employers.
If you require attendance at a career fair or event for class assignment or extra credit, our staff can provide you with student attendance reports. Email your class roster to careers@pittstate.edu.
If there is a need that is not currently being met, or you have an idea for an event that involves connecting students and employers or alumni, reach out to us and let us help you plan it! We can recommend and help find panel volunteers, employers to attend events, and more.
We’re always excited to join department efforts when it comes to working with employers or guiding students through the Career Development process. Here are a few ways we love to work with departments for employer relations:
- Bring a Career Development staff member with you if you’re planning an employer site visit or class trek
- Invite Career Development to attend your Department’s Advisory Board Meeting to help us stay informed of the needs of your graduates and companies
- Let us know if you need help working registration, set-up, or other duties at department career-related events
- Recommend companies you work with to invite to career fairs and/or to post jobs and internships in Handshake
